  • This book furnishes detailed information about Turkey's existing mineral resources, besides providing concepts and ideas which may help the search for potential mineral resources in the future. It is a first book in the English-language international literature on mineral resources of Turkey and it is aimed at economic geologists, mining engineers, and mining investors, as well as graduate and undergraduate students. This work focuses mainly on a range of mineral systems and related geological features throughout Turkey. Taking into account the lack of international literature on these resources, a considerable portion of the book explains the geological context of the region and the settings in which the mineral resources occur. The genetic characteristics of these mineral resources are emphasized and important information is also presented on their economic aspects. All chapter contributions are prepared by researchers and professional geologists.

 

Chapter 4

Epithermal Deposits of Turkey


In Europe and Middle East, Turkey is currently positioned as the largest producer of gold with a 2015 production of 27.5 t from predominantly porphyry and epithermal deposits. Although exploration for gold by advanced geochemical methods started in 1980s, Turkey entered into hard-rock mining based on cyanide pro- cess for extracting gold from low-grade ore in 2001. Before that, apart from placer mining, gold was sold in concentrate ore as by product in some deposits chiefly mined for base metals. Epithermal deposits are high-grade deposits dominated by open-space textures generally formed at depths of ~2 km with temperatures of < 400 °C. Due to their shallow-depth location, it is regarded that they represent easily mineable source of gold. This chapter is designed to focus attention on the geology of important epithermal gold mineralisation in Turkey with the aim to understand the basic regional and local geological setting and mineralogical and geochemical properties setting for the mineralisation. In the chapter the brief summary of selected epithermal deposits is emphasized the principal characteristics of important epithermal mineralisation all over Turkey including low, intermediate and high sulphidation types without taken into account their major economic element content on the base of reports from government and private companies and published or unpublished studies. Up to date, although literature on epithermal mineralisation in Turkey has been increasing with significant exploration and published data, still numerous questions remain unanswered and provide a source for future research.

Baz metal yataklarının uzaktan algılama ile belirlenmesine bir örnek: Hakkari güneyi… H. A. Baran Ülkemizin önemli metalojenik kuşaklarından birinde yer alan bölge baz metaller açısından potansiyeli yüksek alanlar arasında yer almaktadır. İnceleme alanı ve çevresinde hali hazırda keşfedilmiş ve/veya işletilen 20 adet maden yatağı mevcuttur. Bunlardan 5 tanesi endüstriyel hammadde ocağı (mermer), 15 tanesi (10 Pb-Zn, 2 Cu, 3 Cr) ise metalik maden yataklarıdır. Uzaktan algılama ile maden aramada yaygın olarak kullanılan tekniklerden birisi de alterasyon tespitidir. Çalışma alanındaki madenler uzaktan algılama çalışmalarında yüksek başarı oranı ile tespit edilebilen demir veya demirli mineral içermektedir. ALACAKAYA (ELAZIĞ) MERMERİNDE GULEMAN OFİYOLİTİNİN MUCİZESİ

Elazığ ili Alacakaya (Guleman) ilçesinde bulunan ve “Elazığ Vişnesi” olarak adlandırılan mermerin ünü ülkemiz sınırlarını aşmıştır. Literatürde “Rosso Levanto” olarak bilinen volkano sedimanter tektonik breş bölgede mermer olarak üretilmektedir. 1980’li yıllarda başlayan bir serüvenin ürünü olan Rosso Levanto günümüzde dünyanın en önemli yapılarında karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Elazığ vişnesi olarak bilinen breşik mermerler, Alp-Himalaya Orojenezine bağlı olarak oluşan ve Hatay, Adana, Elazığ, Ağrı doğrultusunda uzanıp İran’da son bulan kuşak içerisinde yer almaktadır. En iyi breşik mermerlerin oluştuğu yer Alacakaya (Guleman, Elazığ) bölgesidir. Guleman yöresinde yüzeyleyn ultramafik-mafik kayaçlar, tektonik dilimlenmeyle parçalanmış eksik dizi bir ofiyolit topluluğu olarak tanımlanmış ve “Guleman Ofiyoliti” olarak adlanmıştır (Özkan, 1982).   Tectonic Triggers for Postsubduction Magmatic-Hydrothermal Gold Metallogeny in the Late Cenozoic Anatolian Metallogenic Trend, Türkiye Fabien Rabayrol, Craig J.R. Hart, and Robert A. Creaser   The newly defined, 1,500-km-long, late Cenozoic Anatolian metallogenic trend of Turkey is the central segment of the western Tethyan metallogenic belt and formed after the closure of the southern Neotethys Ocean. Mineral deposit discoveries along this trend show that the Oligocene to Miocene igneous units are highly prospective for gold-rich porphyry- and epithermal-style mineralization (~27 Moz) but that copper endowment is poor. However, the temporal and spatial constraints on late Cenozoic gold districts and isolated prospects and their tectonic affinity are poorly known, despite recent efforts.
